Int'l translation forum held in Beijing

More than 350 professionals in the field of translation attended the first International Forum on Translators and Interpreters Education in Beijing on Dec. 12, 2015. [Zheng Liang/China.org.cn]

The first International Forum on Translators and Interpreters Education was held in Beijing on Dec. 12-13, 2015. More than 350 professionals in the field of translation, from China and all over the world, attended the forum to engage in dialogues and exchange their views concerning the education of translators and interpreters.

Focusing on the theme of "translators and interpreters & lifelong education," the forum covers various issues concerning the development of translators and interpreters, and aims to provide thoughts and ideas to speed up the building of a Chinese talent team in the field of translation and strengthen the training of talents in high-end applied translation.

Anthony Pym, president of the European Society for Translation Studies, Andrew Constable, vice president of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC), Nikolay Garbovskiy, founder and director of the Higher School of Translation and Interpretation at Lomonosov Moscow State University and vice president of the International Conference of University Institutes of Translation and Interpreting Studies (CIUTI), Ma Xuesong, director of the Central Planning and Coordination Division of the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management in the United Nations Secretariat, Xu Hui, deputy director of the Department of Translation and Interpretation in China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ping Hong, secretary-general of China National MTI Education Steering Committee, delivered keynote speeches at the forum.

Directors of the graduate schools of translation and interpretation and heads responsible for Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) programs from nearly 70 famous Chinese universities, including Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, gathered here to offer advice for the training of talented translators and interpreters.

The forum is being hosted by the China International Publishing Group (CIPG) and the China Academy of Translation. Echoing the country's "Belt and Road" Initiative and its demand for quickening the pace of going global, the forum provides a good platform for international exchange on the education of translators and interpreters.
