Wang Wei, deputy manager of Lan-Bridge Language, one of China's largest language service companies founded in Sichuan Province, said that language services are comprised of two dimensions when it comes to the overseas expansion for a company, including communication and information collection.

She opined that quite a few Chinese companies seeking opportunities overseas don't have a good understanding of what language services can provide. Instead, they think language services merely entail translation, and thus underrate the value of language services.

The construction of the "Belt and Road" will engage in more frequent and wider international communication and cooperation, which will lead to a more complicated language environment requiring increased and diversified language services.

There are more than 50 major languages spoken in the countries along the "Belt and Road," which China seeks to develop. Language services are needed to serve the purposes of communication, negotiation and the mediation of disputes during the progress of going out for Chinese companies.

However, China still has a long way to go to meet the needs of basic communication. The lack of linguistic talent will be an obstacle to the implementation of the initiative.

"The platform provided by the China Beijing International Fair for Trade in Services will showcase the products of language service providers, serve as a bridge between providers and customers and help the public gain a full picture of the industry,"said Yang Ping.

First held in 2012, the China Beijing International Fair for Trade in Services covers all of the 12 sectors of trade in services defined by the WTO.
