Members of the APTIF8 Organizing Committee met for the first session on Monday in Xi'an, discussing the current and future preparations for the Forum.

"China's 'Belt and Road' initiative needs a large number of skilled translators, and Shaanxi has done a lot in this regard by launching the Silk Road Information Services Platform," said Zhuang Changxing, President of the Committee and Vice Governor of Shaanxi Province.

We should offer participants from all countries a chance to fully experience Shaanxi's rich culture, he stressed, hoping the Forum will boost research, institutions and talents in translation for the Silk Road Economic Belt and increase Shaanxi's international influence.

"As the start of the ancient Silk Road and a center for China-West cultural exchanges, Xi'an bears great importance in China's translation history and distinct advantages in building the 'Belt and Road'," said Wang Gangyi, Vice President of the Committee and Vice Director of the China Foreign Languages Publishing and Distribution Administration.

The APTIF8 has far-reaching significance in telling China's stories and promoting the building of a new starting point of the Silk Road Economic Belt in Shaanxi, said Wang, who is also the Executive Vice President and Secretary General of the Translators Association of China (TAC).

When chairing the meeting, President Wang Junzhe of Xi'an International Studies University (XISU) said that with vigorous support from relevant sides, XISU will mobilize all kinds of good-quality resources and make further progress with the preparations for a successful forum.

Committee members from the TAC, Shaanxi Government's Education Department, Foreign Affairs Office and Information Office as well as XISU attended the discussions.
